About Trust  >   What is a trust?

A trust is typically defined as a legal arrangement or a legal relationship, whereby a trustee holds and manages property or assets on behalf of a settlor, not for their own benefit but under a fiduciary duty to act in accordance with the terms of the trust instrument (such as a trust deed) for the benefit of the beneficiaries. In this case, the trustee holds legal title to the trust property, while the beneficiaries have equitable or beneficial title.
